BISHOP, CONFESSOR, DOCTOR OF THE CHURCH
St. Augustine, born in Tagastes (Africa) in 354, was the son of St. Monica and of a pagan father. He was converted by the prayers of his mother and became one of the great doctors of the Church. He died in 430.
